Hello all, i would like to raise the ground clearance a bit as i have a LWB and off road its long brake over angle is not good. Now spring over axle is not good i believe to gain hight to fit 33 high tyres. Dont like the long shackles, or is it earings what you call them over in the sunny state.
What would be the best way to go to fit 33`s then.

Thanks

wayne:)

yeah we call them earings what supports the springs.
Listen i was adviced to not replace a earing with more than 3 cm's that the original size (in the front) cause is going to brake more easily the pring leaf besides the driving will become unstable, and the turning will block.
I was told by a specialist and i have a long chassis so believe that me more than anyone need's to gain some ground clearance.
I have 235/85r16 for offroad conditions = as 31 tyres and it is already touching the wheel base on top, so i was also adviced to replace a bigger stop axle/chassis so that the weel wont touch the wheeel plating.
Than dont forget that the shock absorbers will need to grow also.
Any question you can send me pm and i'll ask to this guy and he will tell you what to do.
Now concerning the sunny country, woch countru where you talking about? i didn't wear my shorts this year yet, always with a rain coat everiday cause of the cold and stupid foggy rain. hope the anticyclone of azores will start working soon...
All the best wayne.
See ya, Patrick

The better way to do(without loosing the geometry of the steering, caster, etc)is: more 5cm on shackles and make new springs supports on chassi with more 5cm,same as the shackles, and then 5cm on stop axle/chassis so that the weel wont touch inside the fender. In the back maybe you have to cut a litle bit of the fender because the wheel diameter.

Oh well Patrick i dont feel so bad now with the weather over here:)

So i need to lift only 5cm to get 33`s under, i need to be carfull how i alter it, if i do certain things i will need to have an IVA in the UK for legal reasons on the road, i was going to make new leaf mounts on all 8 leaf mount points but that will need an expensive IVA test...maybe;)

IF i did make new longer spring mounts would it make much more pressuer on the chassis points?

Thanks for help:D

You only need to do 4 new leaf mounts, the other 4 you make new shackles with more 5cm;)
If the job is done well it will not notice much difference, and there you will have no problems with legal reasons on the road.
