Hi people so im just wondering excalty what is needed to swap a 1.9tdi pd130 into my UMM i understand it will require custom engine mounts and a custom engine harness and ecu to run but i was wondering about gearboxes and mounts what gearbox is used what modifications are required to mate it to the transfer case.
Other questions i have is do you guys use a longitudinal engine from likes of audi a4 or transverse like a mk4 golf for fits and mounts. Or is it better to turbo my xd3e or save up and buy an xd3te but been in the UK parts are hard to find without paying premiums. Any information or photos would really help thanks Brad
Pic of my alter for youse 🙂

The best swap I know, and in my opinion one of the best setups out there, is using the ASZ engine with the TSG 360 gearbox.

It's up to you, how do you want to make it working.

XD3T engines are sometimes easy to find in the UK at a low price, but here in Portugal they are quite expensive, usually around 1.7–2K. When one appears for sale there in UK, Ricardo Albuquerque usually buys it quickly then ship it to Portugal.

The other setups also work fine; it really depends on how you want to route your hoses in the engine bay. The ASZ has the EGR facing forward, which is a nice advantage.

Keep in mind that if you move your transfer case, you may need to modify or replace your transmission drive shafts. The main advantage of using the TSG 360 gearbox is that you get a 6th gear and avoid any clutch or adapter plate issues, since it bolts directly to the PD130. The gear lever is cable-operated, so you can position your gear stick almost wherever you want.

Hugo is also a member of this forum, but if you need parts, Ricardo is the person to contact.
Take a look here, you will find some usefull information:

Yeah i thought asz would be the strongest and simplest and true clutch and flywheel would be easy to source for that gearbox.
Ricardo is definitely the man if you need parts 🤣

Remember that the hardest part isn’t getting the engine to run, the hardest part is doing the job properly. There are several PD130 swaps here in Portugal, but some of them look like scrap.
