Hi All,

I have a lot of vibration in my 1986 Alter 1 from 60 - 90 kmph. I started to grease all the joints on the shafts and I have found the front stub axles have a lot of movement in them.

I took the front end apart and got the spindle off, I found the needle bearings inside are broken. I am hoping that this is where the vibration is coming from.

The joints in the front stub axle (Cruzetes?) do not have a grease nipple on, is this normal? Should I replace them for a part with a grease nipple on? I also have kick back through the steering wheel on full lock in 4x4 mode.

I need to get new needle bearings for the spindle, does anyone know the reference number and anywhere I can get them in the Algarve? I think I really need a full kit with seals and there is a bronze bush in there as well? Mine has gone if there was one there!

Hi Mário,

Are the needle bearings in the spindle (manga d'eixo) the same for drum brakes and disc brakes?
The reference that is in the post you you gave me the link for (Ref. B-2110) is this just the bearing or is that the seal and bronze bush as well?
Sorry for so many questions I am struggling to translate all of the posts I am reading.
Where can I find a reference for the new cruzetas I need as well?

I think the bearing kit I am looking for is Timken SBK1, this has the seals as well. Is there anywhere in Portugal I can get them?

Hello everyone,

Sorry I still need help with my front axle. I have replaced all the bearings, seals and joints. I have looked on a parts list for the front axle and I think I am missing a bronze bush which sits in between the seal and needle bearing. Can anyone tell me the name in Portuguese or even better a part number so I can get the part.

Hello Jim,

I can get you the bearings for the front wheel as well as seals, I leave you here prices:

2 - front wheel bearings TIMKEN € 25.90 unit mark.
2 - front wheel seals € 3.50 unit.
1 - Needle Bearing Brand TIMKEN € 9.80

Total € 68.60 per wheel

As for the brass ring you can not help because I'm not seeing what it is.

Can I send a carrier

In case of order would be necessary to confirm the references of the wheel hub bearings, since there are at least two different applications.

Hi Bossinho,

I already have the bearings and seals. I have seen the brass ring on the exploded diagram on the Dana/spicer website and in the technical manual for the Cournil. I don't know that I should definitely have one but there does still seem to be movement between the shaft and the spindle with new needle bearings in it.
